Type of Camera needed for class
These are examples of the type of camera needed for the course, a manual slr film camera (or an automatic slr film camera with a manual setting). The camera will need shutter speed and aperture (f/stop) control capability. See diagrams for more info and specifics. There are many cameras that fit this requirement, below are ONLY examples. Please e-mail me photos from the front and top of any camera you may have questions about.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION regarding Cameras
HOW TO FIND A CAMERA:

PURCHASING -
Here are ways from free to purchasing to find the right camera as noted above:
FREE -
- Look: somewhere lying around in there is a camera just wishing to be used, it may be in a box, your garage, or hidden among things left behind for newer technology. Seek and ye may find.
- Ask: friends, family (near and far), neighbors, community members, people at your parents' place of work, people at your place of worship, people you know who have taken photo before - someone you know has a camera, and if you kindly ask you may just be lucky enough to get to use that camera for free.
PURCHASING -
- Used: there are several places to find a used camera to purchase and you can easily acquire the proper camera for this course for under $50 used, some cameras though may cost more. Places to try include: a thrift store; garage sales; ebay; Craig's List; Amazon; Photo Warehouse (http://www.ultrafineonline.com/slrfilmcameras.html). WARNING: NOT ALL cameras on this link are usable for the class, they need to have shutter speed and aperture controls, the Great Wall Hipstermatic for instance is NOT acceptable because it has a fixed shutter speed - they change what is on this site, so it was not listed there before, and others may be added at any time, so please check with me if any questions.
- Of course if you use an online source, make sure you check the seller's rating and feedback and verify that the source is legitimate and credible and safe.
NO STUDENT WILL BE DENIED FULL PARTICIPATION BECAUSE OF A DECISION TO NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE PROGRAM, NOR PURCHASE PERSONAL ITEMS.
Special Circumstances
For those who have financial restraints which make it a hardship to purchase a used camera and who have searched all the options noted above to try and acquire a free camera, I have a limited supply of cameras that can be checked out for a nominal donation or for free. Please print out the camera checkout slip (click on button below). read it CAREFULLY, fill it out COMPLETELY, and return it ASAP to me.
